Gardening 101: Are You Ready for the Fall?

Isn’t that true? Autumn is here and we know all of you must be breathing in the cool, crisp air. The change of season is seen with a burst of ochre, bronze, and amber. It is a splendid glorious climax to the almost end of the year.

That is until you have to do the laborious task of cleaning the mess that the nature created. This season is bittersweet for gardeners all around. We feel joyful seeing the wonderful turn of colours, it is nearly time for harvesting our fresh crops. However, we are dreading the backaches we are about to suffer after hours of raking up the leaves.

We at Little Field Farms are always eager to help a fellow gardener. This is why we want to share some tips and tricks to get those crunchy leaves off your lawns.

Here they are:

1. Gone with the Wind

Do you know what is worst than raking the garden for hours?

It is the wind blowing away all our hard work in a matter of minutes. That is why we suggest that you should stop fighting with the wind.In order to tackle the problem, you should pick a non-windy day.

However, if that is not an option then you must face the blustery weather with a different strategy. Instead of raking against the wind, rake in its direction. In this way, you will find that the wind is helping you with your raking chore.

2. Wet Mess

Ever raked wet leaves?

They are mushy, sticky and have critters hiding under them. It is safe to say that they are the worst part of raking. Therefore it is wise to clear up the garden when the leaves are all dried up. The experience will be easier and more pleasant. Moreover, you will not have damp leaves stuck to your equipment.

3. Size Matters

Do you enjoy gathering all your leaves in a big pile?

If yes, then please drop that habit! The big piles cause more trouble than you may think. Not only are they difficult to handle in the end, you also lose them all if a strong gust of wind blows them away. Thus, you should consider making small piles and clearing them one at a time. It makes the task at hand much more manageable.

4. Take a Break

Do you have a big backyard?

Then don’t be Superman and try to clear it all up in one day!

Be kind to your body and undertake the work one day at a time. Better yet, get the whole family involved. Kids love stomping and playing with those crispy leaves. Thus, they will definitely enjoy this chore you have set up for them.

5. The Final Weapon

Apart from strong will and determination, you need tools to beat the crusty garden clutters.

We have everything from simple rakeswheelbarrows to leaf blowers and powerful lawn mowers. Our leaf grabbers are particularly nifty for picking up the mess. You will find that we have all that you may need and more!

Happy Raking!
